You’re looking at one and a half hours of twisting work I completed last night. This technique is supposed to stretch her hair. She slept with a silk scarf on and this evening I’ll separate the twists into ringlets and spray with a mix of water/conditioner/tea tree oil to set the curls.

My daughters teacher from last year (3rd grade) emailed me last night asking if my daughter can be assigned to her classroom this year because she is teaching 4th grade. I’m thrilled and über proud! She’s a wonderful teacher whom my daughter respects and has a great relationship with.

My son is supposed to be in 2nd grade but last year our school district adopted a “blended classroom” structure so he will be in a classroom with 3rd and 2nd graders. He really excels being around more advanced students. Having him deemed “gifted” last year after scoring above average on the NNAT2 test has really helped me understand that the way he learns is different than my daughters, and that’s okay. So far, he’s the type of child that you only have to explain things to him once and he gets it. The exception to this rule is that he has to enjoy what he’s being taught, so doing the dishes isn’t included in this rule.

Manly Mans parents are going to stay until their first day of school (Tuesday). This is always a special day because my mom has always come down for the first day of school but she won’t be able to this year because of her health.
